"VP’s arrest will not hinder the relationship between Maldives and China" – Dunya

(Colombo، Sri Lanka): Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs، Ms. Dunya Maumoon has said that the arrest of Vice President Ahmed Adeeb will not hinder the political and business relations between Maldives and China.
Answering to a question asked by “Vaguthu” in the press conference held yesterday at Cinnamon Grand Hotel، Colombo، MinisterDunya said that the relationship between two competing countries is between the government and citizens of the respective countries.
“No. I don’t believe that can happen. The relationship between two competing countries is that among the government and citizens. No matter who is in which position”، said Dunya.
Vice President Ahmed Adeeb was arrested upon his arrival at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport، after concluding his official trip to China to participate as the senior most official of Maldivian government in the Maldives investment forum and a personal trip to Singapore as well.
Dunya said that while President Yameen has made trips to China، the Chinese President
Xi Jinping has also visited Maldives.
“A lot of discussions are being held and work is being done to improve the competitive relations، with China، India and other countries as well”، said Dunya.
