Home Minister Umar Naseer has said that the case of former Defence Minister Colonel (retired) Mohamed Nazim cannot be further investigated because of the restrictions in the ministry.
Umar Naseer made this remark in an interview to DhiTV. He said that Nazim was a hero who has served the nation.
He said that he does not know the details of how the Police carried out the investigation of the case. He said that this is because of the restrictions of his authority over the Police. He said that Nazim was arrested based on information they received.
Umar Naseer reiterated that Nazim has provided many valuable services to the nation.
He said that if he had the power and authority to stop the trial against Nazim he would have done it. He said that he hopes Nashid’s trial is just and fair and he will be released soon.
Home Minister is the parental figure of the Police but President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has restricted the authority of the Home Minister.
