Maldivian Democratic Party is working to destroy the fisheries industry as they called for a boycott on the Maldivian tourism industry some months ago، says the Fisheries Minister.
Speaking to the press about the press statement MDP released saying that the current government has no policies on the fisheries industry، Fisheries Minister Dr Mohamed Shainee said that MDP is providing wrongful information to the international bodies about the Maldivian fisheries industry.
“I call to all the people who who are giving wrongful information to our foreign competitors of our fisheries industries، to stop their actions at once”، said Dr Shainee.
MDP released a press statement، expressing their concern over the current government not releasing the fish reports and supposedly trying to keep the citizens in the dark. MDP’s current leader and ex-president Mohamed Nasheed had also tweeted regarding this matter.
Giving his rebuttal on this matter، Fisheries Minister Dr Shainee said that these are not the days when the island council has to send a secretary to the beaches and collecting information to create the fish report. He also says that the current system of creating fish reports in Maldives is in international standards.

“Maldives is the only country in this region that has the best fish report system. While this process keeps on going well، saying that we do not create fish reports is against the truth”، said the Fisheries Minister Dr Shainee.
MDP’s statement also mentioned that the profits Maldives won from fish exports were really high during the MDP government، and that the figures decreased after MDP’s government was overthrown in 2012.
Regarding this، Dr Shainee said that last year itself، the country received 163.24 million rufiyaa from fish exports. He also said that before the MDP government came to power in 2008، this figure was at 115 million rufiyaa، but the profits then suddenly، dramatically decreased to 74 million in 2009، and in 2010 to 59 million.
“This matter is too delicate to meddle with as a tact of political competitiveness. While they keep insisting that this government has no policies on the fisheries industry، everything is written on PPM’s manifesto. Even if our government’s work on the fisheries ministry is not accepted in our country، we receive continuous praise from the international community”، said Dr Shainee.
