The renovation of Equatorial Convention Center in Addu City has not been started due to lack of a fixed budget، said Minister of Housing Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Answering the question of Hithadhoo Dhekunu MP Ali Nizar in the Parliament session on Tuesday، Minister Muizzu said that they have worked to get a budget for the renovation of the Convention Center built in Addu City in 2011 for the SAARC Summit، which costed 221 million Rufiyaa.
As a budget was not fixed، no renovation could not be arranged this year. However، he has proposed to include it in the budget to be passed for next year، said Housing Minister Dr. Muizzu.
Housing Ministry informs that construction of the Convention Center was under the supervision of MNDF Southern Command، as requested by the Ministry، and the renovation ’till date were also supervised by the Southern Command.
After surveying the Convention Center، the report of the ministry states that fixing and maintenance are required to the electrical wiring of the building، cracks on the walls، flooring، air conditioning system and entry doors، said Housing Minister.
Minister further added that since Addu City Land Usage Plan is being implemented، the land and the surrounding area of Convention Center will be developed.
