MFDA to Launch Special Inspection of Food Establishments in Malé Area

The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has announced a special inspection of food service establishments operating in the Greater Malé Region, scheduled from September 21 to September 31st. This initiative aims to uphold hygiene standards and identify businesses operating without official registration.
The inspection will be conducted in collaboration with Malé City Council and Housing Development Corporation (HDC). MFDA emphasized that under the Food Safety Act, all food service providers must be registered with the authority.
According to the press release, the inspection will focus on:
- Cleanliness of food preparation areas and equipment
- Food storage practices
- Hygiene of staff
- Use of proper food handling methods
MFDA stated that information regarding unregistered establishments will be made public, and those operating illegally will be shut down. The initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure public health and safety in the food sector.
