The Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom) has once again decided to take action against Channel 13, this time in response to a series of remarks made during a "Front Office meeting" held at the residence of former President Abdullah Yameen.
This latest action follows a previous incident in July, when BroadCom penalized Channel 13 for allegedly violating the Code of Broadcasting Practice. That earlier action concerned a major report aired on January 30 this year. The commission had ordered a suspension of Channel 13's program schedule from 20:00 to 21:00 on August 21 and mandated an official apology for the content.
On Monday, the Broadcasting Commission announced that it had decided on Wednesday to launch an investigation into Channel 13's "Front Office meeting" on April 17 of this year, which reportedly contained statements in violation of the Code of Practice.

Channel 13 was given an opportunity to respond to the matter but did not do so. BroadCom's statement highlighted that Channel 13 has been repeatedly fined for rule violations over the past five years, yet has continued to breach regulations.
Consequently, the commission unanimously decided to suspend Channel 13's program schedule from 20:00 to 22:00 on a single evening.
Interestingly, the statement did not specify the exact nature of the contradictory story Channel 13 had broadcast.
Channel 13 is widely recognized as a political content channel. The channel, which promotes the ideas of former President Yameen, has faced bans and fines from BroadCom during the previous government's tenure as well.
