Trump cannot violate international law: Maumoon

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has stated that although former U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed for the United States to take over the Gaza Strip and resettle its people, he cannot violate international law.
Following a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House, Trump proposed that the United States should occupy Gaza and develop it.
In a post on X, former President Maumoon said "Trump says the United States will take over Gaza and build a beautiful Riviera there, relocating those currently living in Gaza. No matter how powerful, no one can go against international law."
Maumoon said that even the world's most powerful nations cannot act in violation of international law.
During a joint press conference with Netanyahu, Trump proposed transforming Gaza into a “Riviera of the Middle East,” expanding economic activities, and creating jobs and housing.
"The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too. We'll own it," Trump said.
Under his plan, many of Gaza’s residents would be deported to other countries, and develop the place to appeal to people across the globe to live there.
