A guideline will be established to regulate the use of fund boxes placed in mosques, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said.
Fund boxes are commonly set up in mosques to raise money for various charitable causes.
Minister Shaheem said that the number of organizations seeking permission to place such boxes has been increasing.
Under the new guideline, fund boxes will be allowed to be set up in mosques after providing details on how the collected funds will be utilized.
Additionally, organizations will be required to submit a report detailing how the funds were spent, along with an audit report, before their permit can be renewed, the minister said.
The guideline will be established under the Protection of the Religious Unity Among Maldivians Act.
Minister Shaheem said that ensuring transparency in the use of funds collected from mosque fund boxes is crucial.
