The number of international flight movements recorded at Velana International Airport (VIA) increased in 2024 compared to the previous year.
According to statistics published by the central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), the total international flight movements recorded at the Maldives’ main international airport was 16,830, marking a six percent increase compared to 2023. In 2023, the total number of international flight movements was 15,883.
The data shows that 15,432 of last year's international flight movements were scheduled flights, while 1,398 movements were charter flights and private flights.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, more than 40 airlines from 23 countries were flying to the VIA as of the end of last 2024.
