Expats in Male area' to be suspended from system if biometrics not provided

Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has said today that expatriates in the Male' area who do not update their biometrics information will be suspended from the XPat system.
In an announcement released today, the ministry said that employers should update fingerprints and photos of all expatriates working in the Male' area at the ministry before March 15.
If this is not done in the given period, they would be suspended from the XPat system and services will not be provided.
The ministry conducted 'Operation Kurangi' in the Male' area last month, where biometrics were collected on expatriates working in the Male' area. in this, information of 1455 expatriates were collected within a single day.
Operation Kurangi was commenced in May 2024, aiming to collect biometric information on all expatriates working in the Maldives. As of now, information has been collected on a total of 25,483 expatriates across the Maldives.
The announcement said that the operation in Male' area will be overseen by a Joint Operation Centre set up at NCIT.
The centre will provide service everyday except Fridays from 9am to 10pm.
