Government to take over re-developing the roads as City Council fails: Housing Minister

Government takes responsibility of re-developing Male’ roads as City Council had dismissed the issue as per Housing Minster، Dr. Mohamed Muizz.
At a press conference held today at Housing Ministry Dr. Muizz stressed that government has started the project of cleaning gutters on Majeedhee magu.
Ministered also emphasized that Male’ City Council negated the project when budget was allocated for them to carry out the task of solving the poor conditions many roads are in.
Housing Ministry in collaboration with Environment Ministry will develop a plan to restructure the roads to find a permanent solution to flooding and other issues، says the Minister.
Furthermore Minister emphasised on the difficulties public had to bare due to the heavy rain fall today; giving why the flood can’t be drained due to poor maintenance of the drainages and road development.
“It is in City Council’s mandate to clean and maintain all the drainages، but we see they have failed doing that”، says the Minister Muizz.
Moreover Minister said that the trees planted in the drainages will be removed permanently and the cleaning of the drainages are already in action. However this is a temporary solution says the Minister، and that the government will work on a permanent solution – re-develop the roads for better public conveniency.
