Former President Nasheed alleges ‘IS Jihadists within senior ranks of security forces’

Former President and the President of the major opposition party MDP، Mohamed Nasheed has alleged that there are ‘Jihadists’ of Islamic State (IS) within the higher ranks in the authorities of Maldives Police Service and Maldives National Defense Force collectively.
During a visit to London، former President have told “The Independent” Newspaper that efforts to diminish terrorism have drastically decreased in Maldives and that security forces of Maldives have associations with several Terrorist groups. He has alleged that several senior ranked officers in the security forces have acquainted with Jihadists in the self-claimed ‘Caliphate” Islamic State (IS).
“Extreme mentality is spread. Their influence has been spread within Police and Army. Many high ranked officers in both authorities have that extreme mentality.” Former President Nasheed told “The Independent”.
He said that over 200 people fled from the country in the name of “Jihad” and of those people، most are former officers within the security forces.
“The thing is، these people are recruiting people (to go fight abroad)، by using Maldivian security forces to train them.” Nasheed said.
Nasheed added that he is concerned about the policies President Yameen’s administration is using against terrorist and alleged that President Yameen is under orders of a group with extreme religious mentality.
