Finance Minister appointed President of LGA

The Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Hassan Zareer, has been appointed as the President of the Local Government Authority (LGA).
The LGA was previously chaired by former Finance Minister Moosa Zameer, before his resignation from the Cabinet on 8 June.
In accordance with Article 140 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives and Article 59 of the Decentralization Act, the President of the Local Government Authority is accountable to the Parliament on behalf of the Authority.
Zareer holds a Bachelor of Accounting and a Master of Science in Finance from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He is also a Fellow Chartered Management Accountant (FCMA, CGMA) in the United Kingdom and a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) in Australia.
