Velana International Airport’s new terminal fully complies with international aviation safety standards, according to Ahmed Nasheed, Head of the Directorate of Aviation Security Administration (DASA). In a video segment published as part of Maldives Airports Company Limited’s (MACL) ongoing terminal readiness series, Nasheed highlighted that the new Baggage Handling System (BHS) adheres to security benchmarks comparable to those in developed nations.
“As the aviation security regulator, we believe the security protocols in the new terminal are highly robust. Delivering security services using advanced equipment will inspire confidence in passengers flying to the Maldives from around the globe,” said Nasheed.
He added that the terminal will enable the Maldives to accommodate more international airlines, enhancing connectivity and tourism potential. The terminal is scheduled to open on July 26, coinciding with the country’s Independence Day.
DASA, under the Ministry of Defence, is tasked with enforcing aviation security standards in line with international conventions, overseeing civil aviation security, designating secure zones at airports, and representing the Maldives in global aviation security matters.
