Zakat Fund Spends Over USD 544,000 on Medical Aid for the Needy in First Half of 2025

The Zakat Fund has disbursed over USD 544,000 on medical treatment for underprivileged individuals over the last six months, statistics have shown.
According to the Maldives Zakat House, responsible for administering the Zakat Fund, the Fund provided financial assistance for medical care to 590 individuals during this period, with over USD 544,694.11 spent on their treatment. The highest expenditure was on cancer treatment, with over USD 149,220 spent on cancer patients.
The monthly breakdown of medical spending is as follows:
• In January - USD 49,287.83
• February - USD 48,637.22
• March USD 54,478.14
• April - USD 71,322.16
• May - USD 252,912.62
• June - USD 71,322.16
In addition to healthcare, the Zakat Fund also provided assistance in other areas. Over USD 7132 was allocated to fulfil essential needs of the underprivileged and needy, while over USD 272,387.54 was spent on Zakat administrators.
In addition, more than USD 149,220.49 was spent under the Fi Sabililah component, on memorising the Qur'an and spreading Quranic knowledge. Additionally, more than USD 107,639.96 was spent to support various religious programmes.
