"Number of Maldivians active in warfare are over seven" Minister Umar

The number of Maldivians who are currently active in wars and feuds in different countries abroad have increased over seven، said Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer.
Umar gave his statement in the Parliament Sitting on Monday morning، answering to a question presented to him by a member of the Parliament.
“In light of the information we have received، reportedly over seven Maldivians are currently active in warfare in various countries of the world.” Minister Umar said.
He said that a mechanism has been established to monitor the actions being taken by various administrative bodies in the Government in the ventures to counter the acts of terrorism.
He also highlighted that the Government has put efforts to avoid religious extremism to creep in to the education system.
Denying the allegation that there are officers in MNDF and Police institutions with extreme religious mentality، Minister Umar said the allegations are put forth with a political agenda.
However، former President of the Maldives Mohamed Nasheed has claimed that there are officers in MNDF and Police with extreme religious mentalities، and he also claimed that over 300 Maldivians have gone to take part in warfare activities in several countries abroad.
