Maldives is experiencing a robust start to the year, with international flight movements increasing by five percent in the first seven months of 2025, according to the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
This surge in air traffic coincides with a significant rise in tourist arrivals, signaling strong momentum for the nation's vital tourism sector.
A total of 10,187 international flights landed in the Maldives between January and July 2025, compared to 9,698 during the same period last year, marking a five percent increase.
The growth was primarily driven by scheduled international airline services, which saw a 5.5 percent jump, with 9,358 scheduled flights recorded this year compared to 8,866 in the previous year - indicating that more airlines are expanding their operations to the popular destination.
While scheduled flights saw a notable increase, general aviation traffic, which includes charter flights and private jets, experienced a slight decrease, with 829 movements recorded in the first seven months compared to 832 during the same period last year.
The rise in international flights has directly supported the burgeoning tourism sector. So far this year, the Maldives has welcomed over 1.5 million tourists, representing a 9.7 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.
This reflects the enduring appeal of the Maldives as a premier international destination and the effectiveness of efforts to enhance connectivity and accommodate growing visitor numbers.
