President and Chief Scout of the Maldives Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged the government’s full support to expand the Scout movement in the Maldives. The President made the remark while speaking at a special ceremony held to confer the World Scout Badge upon the Chief Scout, and to present the Scout Award to recipients.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President said there is still a lot of work to be done to expand the Scout movement in the Maldives. He acknowledged that many challenges are faced by the movement, including the lack of a permanent office space for the Scout Association, which continues to relocate from one temporary premise to the other. This is not how it should be, he noted.
The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding the Scout movement in the Maldives. He assured that the government would provide the necessary infrastructure and financial support.
"I genuinely wish to revive and strengthen this movement in our country. The government will provide comprehensive assistance and cooperation by providing all necessary resources of all varieties. Hopefully, in the future, the government will extend similar support to the cadet corps, girl guides and other such initiatives,” he assured.
President Muizzu highlighted that the Scout movement in the Maldives has a 69-year history, and has achieved many proud accomplishments. Scouts also play an active role in responding to major national disasters, he noted.
