The Anti-Scam Center has reported that nearly MVR 900,000 has been stolen in scam-related cases over a two-week period.
According to statistics released by the Center, 44 scam cases were reported between the 18th and 30th of this month, resulting in total losses of MVR 899,348.43. Of this amount, MVR 147,132.00 has been successfully recovered. Full recoveries were made in eight cases, while partial recoveries were recorded in three.

E-commerce scams: 25 cases
Currency exchange fraud: 10 cases
Phone call scams: 4 cases
Phishing links: 2 cases
Other types: 3 cases
Main Platforms Used by Scammers:
Facebook Marketplace: 18 cases
Viber: 11 cases
Phone calls: 4 cases
eBay: 4 cases
Other platforms: 7 cases
In light of the increasing incidents, the Anti-Scam Centre has urged the public to remain vigilant. The Centre’s guidelines include avoiding suspicious links, never sharing verification codes, and exercising caution even when messages appear to come from familiar contacts.
The Center emphasized the importance of swift action if one falls victim to a scam and reiterated its commitment to assisting in the recovery of stolen funds.
