The Maldives Immigration has detained 35 illegal expatriates following a special inspection conducted in two areas of Male' this morning.
As part of ongoing efforts to address the issue of undocumented foreign workers in the country, the Immigration Task Force carried out a targeted operation from 7:30 AM to 9:15 AM. The sweep focused on two areas frequently used by expatriates—the Zikura Mosque vicinity and the Heenamage parking area.
According to Immigration, 121 expatriates were inspected during the operation, with 35 identified as residing illegally in the Maldives. They have since been taken into Immigration custody.
This follows a similar operation conducted last Thursday, during which 25 illegal expatriates were apprehended.
Immigration authorities stated that such operations are being conducted regularly in both the capital region and the atolls. The most recent atoll operation took place in R. Dhuvaafaru.
The institution has reiterated its commitment to curbing illegal residency and maintaining order in accordance with immigration laws.
