His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended warm greetings and sincere felicitations to His Excellency Sergio Mattarella, President of the Republic of Italy, and Her Excellency Giorgia Meloni, President of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Italy, on the occasion of Italy’s Republic Day.
In a post on his official X account, President Dr Muizzu highlighted that Italy’s Republic Day symbolises the Italian people’s fight for freedom and justice, and that it is heartening to see those democratic values continue to be upheld to this day.
The President also sent a message to President Mattarella, conveying best wishes on behalf of the Government and people of the Maldives. He noted the recent strengthening of bilateral cooperation, particularly in tourism, culture, and education, and expressed his commitment to working closely with President Mattarella to further enhance ties in the years ahead.
In a separate message to Prime Minister Meloni, the President underscored the close partnership that has existed since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1966. He acknowledged Italy’s instrumental role in the development of the Maldivian tourism industry and expressed appreciation for the fact that Italy has remained one of the Maldives’ top five tourist markets over the past three years.
President Dr Muizzu also expressed his personal best wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of Italy and reaffirmed his intent to deepen cooperation between the two countries.
