Parliamentary Group Leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)، and the Vilimale’ Constituency Lawmaker Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik said the former President Mohamed Nasheed wants to be arrested by the Police one way or the other.
Speaking in a program on DhiTV on Monday night، MP Nihan said while the Government has no interest in detaining him، Nasheed wants to be arrested by an order issued by the Government،. He said Nasheed is intimidated mostly by the Police Special Officers (SO) and that he would do anything to taint the name of Police.
“I want to tell this to the party members and every ‘freedom-loving’ person who is listening to this، – Nasheed wants to get arrested. He wants to be either arrested by the Police or Government to issue an arrest warrant for him. But the Government is not ready or is interested to do that.” Nihan said.
Nihan said the result of ‘overcoming fear’ have been seen the past few years – torching of buildings and throwing fireballs – which he alleged are ‘masterminded’ by Nasheed.
He said that during PPM’s riots they have ‘jumped over and gone under’ the Police barricades، but never confronted Police with physical assaults.
Furthermore، Nihan said the basic aspect Nasheed and his team ‘sell’ is to alter the behaviors of the youth and deviate them from the right path – which challenged the youth to recognize the new and developed mentality to successfully grow. However، he said، PPM has started special ‘treatments’ to guide the youth to the correct path.
Nihan said the Government، of 11 months، is doing the best to fulfill it’s promises in the manifesto. But، MDP claims the Government has to fulfill the promises in one day – which actually needs five years – Nihan said.
“11 months have been passed since the Government came in power. In every day agenda، the government includes it’s venture to fulfill its five-year-promises. But the ‘resigned’ President and his team believes the promises made for five years should be completed within one day. They don’t do anything other than setting a blind eye to the accomplishments of the Government. Except for being obsessed for the defense and security forces.” Nihan said.
