Speaking in a press conference held at President’s Office, Minister Muizzu said that the first survey on the project was now complete, and that the ministry had been informed a team of experts from China were to come to Maldives beginning of March to start work on the second survey. The team will be conducting the rest of the work that needs to be completed for bridge feasibility study, said Minister Muizzu. “And will complete work that needs to be done for tender process. And by then finance needed to conduct the project will be arranged by relevant authorities,” he said. Stressing that Male-Hulhule Bridge Project was being carried out at great speed, Minister Muizzu said that the project would bring great development to Hulhumale. And that it joining Male and Hulhumale via a bridge was something many people had been waiting for a long time. The USD 3 to 4 million bridge survey work is being funded through free financial assistance from China, while construction work on the bridge is being conducted via a soft loan from Chinese Exim Bank. President’s Office had said earlier that construction work on the bridge would start in 2015, and that the project would be completed and opened in 2017.
