Malaysia’s budget airline, Batik Air, has started direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Velaana International Airport (VIA).
The airline’s first flight was operated to VIA on Friday. The airline received a warm welcome with a water salute, with 121 passengers on the first flight.
According to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Batik Air will operate three weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and VIA and Boeing 737 aircrafts will be used for the airline’s operations. These are aircrafts with a capacity of 180 passengers.
Batik Air has already started direct flights between VIA and Kuala Lumpur and has also started transit flights to the Maldives to Sri Lanka and from Sri Lanka to Malaysia since last month.
Batik Air operates to 50 destinations including Malaysia, Thailand and Australia.
