"Broadcasting will be digitized by the end of 2017″: Minister Umar

By the end of the year 2017، the Broadcasting sector of Maldives will be converted digital، said Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer.
In a press conference held at President’s Office on Thursday regarding Social Council’s work، Minister Umar said the goal of the Government is to convert the whole Broadcasting sector of Maldives in to digital، and that Japanese Government is providing the aid to complete the milestone.
“By the end of 2017، Digital Broadcasting service will be provided everywhere in Maldives. The signing of first phase of the project has already been done.” Umar said.
“Aim of the Government is to change the Broadcasting sector to a digital service. The Government has already got aid from the Japanese Government during President Yameen’s visit to Japan.” Minister said.
He said a team of specialist from Japan conducted a survey for the project during last week. He also announced that the agreement of the first phase of the project has been signed on Thursday. A team of specialist from Japan will come to Maldives for a technical survey during the mid of next year، Umar said.
“The first survey has been done. A team of specialist will come to Maldives during mid of next year to do a thorough technical survey. Every island in Maldives will be provided digital TV، Radio and Emergency services، once the project is done.” Minister Umar said.
