Within this year Business Development Centers will be established in three different areas of Maldives، said Minister of Economic Developments Mohamed Saeed.
Answering a question by Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam in the parliament today، Minister said that centers will be build in Seenu Hithadhoo، Haa Dhaal Kulhudhuhfushi and Lhaviyani Naifaru. Agreements of the center to be established in Addu Hithadhoo will be discussed and finished within this month، he added.
“The center will provide incubator services، training programs to educate skills of starting and running a business، help organise businesses and business consultancy support”، said the minister.
Ministry is currently searching for professionals to provide services in these centers and they currently in the evaluation phase، minister informs.
To enhance the packaging policy in Maldives، packaging facilities will be established in Addu City and Haa Dhaal Kulhudhuhfushi within this year، minister said.
Minister said in addition that development of Addu is in progress.Ministry has already discussed with BML for loan programs to issue loans for small or mid-level businesses. 34 has already received the loans، remarked the minister.
He said that many economic development programs are planned to all the areas of Maldives without any discrimination، and to provide this to the people is a strong aim of the ministry.
Minister Saeed said that now the main works of the ministry are to implement a government’s economic agenda to steady and widen the state economy، and to bring changes to the laws and administrative structure to develop the economy. They are also currently promoting the economic projects and also trying to get more investors for such projects.
“The special economic zones bill was presented to the parliament so that the government can work on developments in area wise. If this bill becomes a law، highly populated and geographically important areas like Addu city will get economic developments which they didn’t have before، and open chances for local and foreign investors to begin new businesses as well”، said minister.
