Prosecutor General Uz. Muhtaz Muhsin had requested Home Minister Umar Naseer to block the access to pornographic websites.
PG Muhtaz sent a letter yesterday to Minister Umar saying Maldives being an Islamic country should ban the access to websites with pornographic contents، as many other Islamic nations had already done that.
“Necessary steps must be taken to block the access to websites on the internet with pornographic contents، as the videos on such sites provoke people committing illicit acts“، PG Muhtaz said on the letter.
“All things leading to committing crimes should be stopped to maintain the moral principals within the community”، the letter further read.
Meanwhile، the number of people around the globe accessing the internet websites containing pornographic and explicit contents are increasing day by day، website ranking statistics show.
While the efforts are being undertaken to block pornographic websites in Maldives، Police had previously attempted to taken down many pornographic websites run by locals، and were able to take down some.
