The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare and the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) have signed an agreement aimed at strengthening regulations on the import of plants and animals by air.
The agreement was signed by MACL’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed on behalf of the company, while Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, Ishaq Adam signed on behalf of the Ministry.
This is the first in a series of agreements intended to improve the quality of services provided at Velana International Airport (VIA) and strengthen cooperation between MACL and other government agencies operating at the airport. Under the newly signed agreement, MACL will work closely with the Agriculture Ministry to further strengthen matters related to the import of plants and animals by air.
According to MACL, this initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to align its services with international best practices and strengthen operational efficiency. The company noted that it is working to improve the quality of its services ahead of the scheduled opening of VIA’s new passenger terminal on 26 July.
