Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has demanded Minister Dunya Maumoon to resign as Foreign Minister as she has purposely violated the constitution by stating wrong information.
MDP stated their demand in a press statement released on Saturday night condemning Minister Dunya’s wrong statement in the Parliament Sitting on Wednesday regarding India’s involvement in China’s proposed 21st Century Maritime Silk Route Project.
MDP said they are concerned that ‘Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon has deliberately violated the constitution by stating wrong information in the Parliament Sitting’ and that they condemn the unethical move by her.
Minister Dunya has said in her statement in the Parliament Sitting on Wednesday that our neighbours، Sri Lanka and India، have also joined China’s proposed MSR project. She also said that، during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to India، the two countries have discussed regarding the Silk Route project، and that the neighbouring countries have welcomed the proposed project by China.
However، Indian High Commission in Maldives have denied Foreign Minister’s claims. In a press statement released on Friday، Indian High Commission said that India has not agreed to take part in the China’s proposed Silk Route project، and no negotiations have taken place between two countries regarding the matter.
Further more in the statement released on Saturday night، MDP said that clashes between India and PPM Government’s high ranks will impose a very negative affect on the ties strengthened over the long period of time.
In addition، a foreign body to release a statement denying claims of the Foreign Minister is an embarrassment to Maldives، said MDP in their statement.
