Earlier, an employee of Hanimaadhoo International Airport was also detained by the police for saying that there could be a “gun” at the time of a security check. The incident took place on September 27, 2022, during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s official visit to Haa Dhaalu Atoll, when the flight he was travelling in was about to land at Hanimaadhoo.
On the same day, police stated they took an employee of Hanimaadhoo International Airport into custody for questioning compromising the safety of the airport. He was later released on the same day after questioning. He later stated that he told that he had a gun for fun.
Even for fun, compromising safety and security in areas where flight operations take place is a crime.
