Tree Top Hospital successfully completes AICD implantation to make history

Tree Top Hospital (TTH) has made history by successfully completing its life-saving Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (AICD) implantation.
The procedure mark is a medical milestone marking an important advancement in the hospital's cardiac treatment capabilities.
According to TTH, the AICD implantation was performed on a British tourist in emergency cardiac care.
TTH stated that its prompt response facilitated the swift procurement of the specialized AICD device, significantly reducing the patient's waiting time and enabling the procedure to proceed without further delay. The hospital noted that this reflects its streamlined processes and commitment to delivering timely, high-quality care. The hospital also highlighted its effective coordination with specialist doctors to organize the treatment and complete all necessary procedures in-house.
According to TTH, the procedure was a collaborative effort between skilled medical professionals.
In this regard, the hospital detailed that its Head of Cardiology Dr. Amit Agarwal pivotal role in diagnosing the patient, planning the procedure, and ensuring seamless coordination. Dr. Agarwal brings with him an impressive track record of performing numerous milestone cardiac procedures at the hospital. Meanwhile, the surgery was led by Dr. Miqdhaadh Shareef, a distinguished cardiology specialist from the Maldives, whose expertise was vital to the successful outcome. According to the hospital, the combined efforts of both specialists ensured the procedure was carried out with precision and excellence.
TTH said the achievement reflects the hospital’s strong commitment to delivering exceptional cardiac care through the most advanced technology available.
Commenting on the surgery, TTH’s CEO, Dr. Srivatsan Sridhar G said the AICD implantation is a vital procedure to prevent sudden cardiac death, and this successful case highlights our steadfast dedication to providing exceptional healthcare.
“With this milestone, patients in our region suffering from life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias can now access advanced, timely treatment close to home—no longer needing to travel abroad for expert care,” he added.
Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (AICD) represents a major advancement in the treatment of life-threatening heart rhythm disorders. This advanced electronic device, once implanted, continuously monitors the patient's heart and performs a range of critical functions—from pacing to delivering life-saving shocks—effectively protecting against sudden cardiac death. The hospital highlighted that modern AICDs are highly proactive, often correcting irregular heart rhythms before symptoms even appear. Additionally, these devices can communicate remotely with the cardiologist, allowing for timely medical intervention based on detected abnormalities and helping to prevent potential emergencies.
