WAMCO employee on ventilator after ingesting diesel, arrangements underway for treatment abroad

A Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) employee who was seriously injured after accidentally ingesting diesel while working at a site in G.A. Dhiyadhoo remains on a ventilator, with arrangements being made to send him abroad for further treatment.  
The incident occurred on Friday when the 37‑year‑old man from H.Dh. Kulhudhuffushi reportedly sucked on a pipe while refueling a diesel tank, causing the fuel to enter his lungs.  
He was initially treated for breathing difficulties at G.A. Villingili Hospital before being transferred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male' the same day. An IGMH media officer confirmed to Sun that the patient remains on a ventilator but declined to provide further details.  
A WAMCO spokesperson said the employee’s wife and brother have arrived in Male', and staff are stationed at the hospital around the clock to assist the family.  
“The employee is still on a ventilator. He has not been removed from it to avoid risk. We are now working to send him abroad for further treatment, and discussions are underway with a foreign medical team,” the spokesperson said.  
The official added that the employee was assigned to the Thilafushi site but had been temporarily deployed to Dhiyadhoo when the incident occurred.
