Former President Mohamed Nasheed has received the Silvia Earle Mission Blue Award 2014.
The Mission Blue Award honours leaders who work for the protection of the environment and climate change.
The award was presented to Nasheed by founder and Co-chair of Mission Blue, Dr Silvia Earle, at the Blue Ocean Film Festival and Conservation Summit in Florida. As part of his visit to the United States, Nasheed gave speeches at the Eckerd College and the University of South Florida on Thursday, on issues such as global warming and the importance of protecting the environment.
