Previous administration took bribes: Nasheed

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that the previous administration had taken bribes from the foreign company tasked with developing the Maafaru Airport.
Speaking at a campaign event of main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in Manadhoo on Monday, party leader Nasheed said that former President Abdulla Yameen had repeatedly took bribes from the company.
Maafaru Airport is being financed by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
Yameen landed a test flight and inaugurated the unfinished airport on 28 August 2018. No flight has landed since and the airport is still under development.
At Monday’s event, Nasheed assured that the current administration will not stop the project and that incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is in talks with Abu Dhabi.
Nasheed, who is vying for the Central Mahchangolhi seat, said that the current administration will always be free from corruption and that MDP’s parliamentary agenda will guarantee the rights of all citizens and improve living conditions.
