A cycle rally has been held by the men in Ha. Utheemu to mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The day was celebrated across the country yesterday to protest against atrocities against women. The bike rally was held last evening in Utheemu.
According to the President of Utheemu Council Abdulla Rasheed, the cycle rally was conducted jointly by the island’s council, institutions in the island, clubs, NGOs, and by the men living in the island.
During the cycle rally, which was held from 1700 hrs to 1745 hrs on major roads of Utheemu yesterday, the participants of the rally used banners and boards to express their solidarity against atrocities against women.
Moreover, Abdulla Rasheed stated that during this cycle rally, the men of this island used the special colour of the day to express their solidarity against the atrocities against women and we do not accept any violence against women from the community. He also noted that all the men who are currently stationed in the island participated in the event held in Utheemu yesterday.
The Council appreciated the support extended by Utheemu men, institutions, and club organisations to the event.
