Two Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested on charges of attempting to smuggle drugs into Maldives.
The accused, Kabir Mia, 24, and Omar Farooq Rajo, 28, have been arrested on charges of drug trafficking after attempting to smuggle nearly two kilograms of drugs into the country by air.
The drugs, weighing 1.97 kg, were found in three pieces of luggage, the court order said.
According to the court order, the individuals were arrested after a foreigner attempted to collect the luggage following customs clearance.
The authorities had initiated a controlled delivery operation, where the foreigner went to retrieve the package. The foreigner claimed that they were instructed to take the luggage by someone else.
The Criminal Court has remanded the two men in custody for 10 days.
