HDC Reports Multiple Claims to Same Plot Under Binveriyaa Scheme

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has filed a case with Maldives Police Service following the discovery that a Hulhumale’ land plot has been registered to several individuals under the former government’s Binveriyaa Scheme.
The HDC said the matter came to the corporation’s attention when more than one individual applied for building permits for the same plot issued under the Binveriyaa Scheme.
The corporation said it is investigating the issue and taking the necessary steps to address the matter. While a special audit conducted on the land allocation has identified several similar irregularities, a case has now been filed with the police to further investigate the matter, HDC said. The corporation assured that it will continue to take necessary measures to address such issues.
The draw for the land recipients under the Binveriyaa Scheme was held on 15 August, 2023, nearing the end of the previous presidential term. The land handed over commenced on August 27 of the same year.
The Binveriyaa Scheme was designed to benefit the residents of Male’ City, with more than 9,000 plots allocated from the Male’ area including Hulhumale’, Gulhifalhu and Giraavarufalhu. Of these, 1,351 plots were allocated from Hulhumale’. More than 600 plots have been handed over to the recipients so far.
