Police Southern Division Commander Chief Inspector of Maldives Police Service Ahmed Shifan has indirectly responded to Former President Mohamed Nasheed’s allegations.
Former Prez. Nasheed alleged ‘higher officials of Police in Male’ ordering the release of the arrested suspects who vandalized and created a commotion during the MDP’s special gathering in Addu city last Friday.’
In a tweet he sent on Tuesday، Ahmed Shifan said، “Police today are free and independent and do not need require to obey an order given by a specific person”. “[Therefore] I am proud to be a Police officer”، Shifan added.
On Friday night، masked vandals attacked MDP special gathering at Addu City Feydhoo Harbor. 16 were arrested. However، due to no solid evidence، all 16 were released. Although، Police says they are investigating a case of 6 among the 16 suspects.
