Home Minister Umar Naseer has said that the implementation of the death penalty cannot wait until a special law is made for the matter.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily in view of the minister’s interview at the Raaje Miadhu program aired on TVM, Minister Umar Naseer said that the death penalty will be implemented under the laws currently in effect.
He said that if the Supreme Court issues verdict to implement the death penalty then it will be implemented.
The Minister said that the state will prepare the means for to implement the death penalty by the time the Supreme Court issues the verdict.
He said that a special room is have been now developed in Maafushi prison. He said that the government is now working to find the necessary means to implement it.
In addition to this, Umar Naseer said that the government will implement the death penalty on Hussein Humam of H. Lobby, the murder convict of the case of Dr. Afrasheem Ali.
Meanwhile, the first hearing of the appeal case of Humam is scheduled for today at the High Court.
