Former President Mohamed Nasheed has extended his gratitude to Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer for requesting Police Integrity Commission to investigate the alleged case of Police officers’ involvement in the chopping down of palm trees.
“Appreciation to Umar Naseer for requesting PIC to investigate the involvement of masked police officers in the crime committed in Male’.” President Nasheed said in a tweet.

President Nasheed accused certain police officers belonging to Special Operations Unit of having a hand in the chopping down of the palm trees، during the special gathering of MDP on Satuday night.. He also revealed detailed information of the officers – including the unit and service numbers – during a press conference held at Male’ City Council Secretariat on Tuesday.
Home Minister tweeted on Tuesday saying that the authorities will investigate the matters claimed by President Nasheed. He also said that he have asked Police Integrity Commission to investigate the case to see if a Police have a hand in the crime، or why Police could not stop the crime.
In a second tweet he sent، Minister Umar said that he has asked all the Police Executives to assist the PIC in their investigation، and that the Government will not ask the defense and security authorities to carry out anything unlawful.
