Former Minister of Defence & National Security Colonel (Retired) Mohamed Nazim had left the Government party، Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
Nazim announced that he left PPM on a tweet he posted while he was being taken into Police custody tonight.
Minister Nazim was arrested while at his wife’s private apartment at G. Enif at around 01:10 tonight، over the case of alleged discovery of dangerous weaponry at his residence.
The tweet posted by Nazim reads، “I would like to inform all my well wishers I have left PPM today but will be committed to work with you for a better and secure Maldives.”
Previously on a news conference، Nazim said he will give time for the Government and will join the opposition.
Minister Nazim was dismissed from his position following the alleged discovery of dangerous weaponry at his private residence، during a Police raid on 18 January 2015.
After concluding the investigation، Nazim’s case was sent for prosecution on Monday. However the charges to be pressed against him remain undisclosed. He was later arrested and taken to Dhoonidhoo on Monday late night.
