Under the Government ventures to protect the ecosystems of the islands، projects are launched to stop the erosion of seven islands، said Minister of Environment & Energy، Thoriq Ibrahim.
During the session of Parliament on Monday، answering to a question presented by a member، Minister Thoriq said، Government’s 116.3 Million Dollar project will be launched to fix the eroding beaches of seven islands.
And while the project has been signed with the contractor، the work has started in some islands and the remaining islands are in preparation process.
“The government is working to solve the erosion of seven islands، within this year،  The project has been signed with the contractor to solve the erosion of seven islands.” Minister Thoriq said.
Minister Thoriq in an early statement said our of 114 islands which faces erosion، 67 islands have severe cases. Minister said the project that kicks off this year will cover 6km of harbor which will protect a population of over 25،000 people.
