The parties jealous of our Islamic status is extremely high: President

President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has stated that the number of parties jealous of our 100 percent Islamic status is too high.
He made the statement speaking in the flag hoisting ceremony held to mark the 51st independence day.
He said that every day presented new challenges to the Government, especially with other nations pressuring to make Maldives a multi-religious society.
“Every day is a day when the Government is pressured into allowing Maldives to become a multi-religious society. Every day is of warnings and caution over implementation of Islamic Shariah, teaching of Islam. There is a faction of traitors, bent on damaging the nation’s peace, stability, progress,”
He said it was one of these factions that had invited tamil terrorists in November 3, 1988, by going to Sri Lanka and promising that a terrorist network can be created in the Maldives.
Yameen said that wise people said that history repeats itself due to these issues. He said that a faction is now seeking protection in foreign nation and working to achieve these objectives. President Yameen said the work of these factions were targeted at preventing investment, financial aid, impose undue sanctions on the country and foster religions other than Islam.
