First Lady opens BML Raajje Junior Championship 2026

First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has graced the opening ceremony of the Bank of Maldives (BML) Raajje Junior Netball Championship 2026.
The championship was officially launched during a ceremony held on Sunday afternoon at the Male' Social Centre Indoor Hall, where the First Lady signed the official tournament ball. She also met and greeted the players and officials of the two teams competing in the opening match.
The opening fixture saw Huravee School take on Jamaluddin School. Huravee School secured a 23–3 victory in the match, which was played over four seven-minute quarters. Following the match, the First Lady presented the Queen of the Match award to Aminath Thuga of Huravee School.
The tournament is organised by the Netball Association of Maldives as part of its ongoing efforts to promote, develop and nurture young netball talent across the country. The competition was previously held under the name Inter-School Netball Tournament.
Under its new title, BML Raajje Junior Championship 2026, teams are competing in two age categories. A total of 14 teams are participating in the Under-15 division, while 11 teams are competing in the Under-17 division.
The opening ceremony of the "BML Raajje Junior Championship 2026" was also attended by officials from the Netball Association of Maldives, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness Abdulla Rafiu, and Bank of Maldives Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef.
