The Maldives and Saudi Arabia have decided to host an anti-corruption forum for increased transparency and eliminating corruption in the tourism industry.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Saudi’s Oversight and Anti-Corruption Committee will jointly host the “Saudi-Maldives International Forum on Integrity”.
ACC’s Director of Prevention Fathimat Ibna, while speaking on PSM’s “Raajje Miadhu” program said the forum is scheduled for May 6-7, 2025 and would see participation of 50 countries.
The forum will be based on a series of sessions, and the first session would involve leaders of participating nations addressing the risks in combatting corruption.
Ibna said that the forum will help Maldives in strengthening its anti-corruption efforts since corruption is tied to the economy. She also noted the forum will help in both formal and informal dialogue among the contingents towards the elimination of corruption.
The forum will also assist Maldives in strengthening its relations with the member states of Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The ACC director also emphasized strong support from Saudi Arabia in organizing the forum, including discussions between the ACC and Saudi’s Anti-Corruption Agency during Ramadan.
ACC also said it is working to facilitate livestreaming the forum via Facebook and X to provide access to public while a designated website for the forum has already been developed.
