International flights to the Maldives increased by 27% as of September 2022, compared to the same period last year.
According to Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) statistics, international flight arrivals from January to September end reached 11,070. For the corresponding period last year, international flight arrivals stood at 8,698.
Though scheduled flight operations to Maldives increased, chartered and private jet landings were lower for the period in 2022 compared to last year.
The total international flight arrivals consisting of scheduled and cargo flights as of September end stood at 9,461 whereas for the same period last year it was 6,864.
Private jet and chartered flight landings for the period were observed at a total of 1,609 – a decline from the 1,834 landings for the same period in 2021.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Tourism reports more than 25 international airlines operate to the Maldives including Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, Etihad and Emirates Airways among several others including recent addition Wizz Air.
