Economic and Youth Council Co-Chair and Fisheries Minister Dr.Muhammad Shainee have said that the government hopes to start the iHaven project this year.
Speaking to Miadhu News, Dr.Shainee said that many parties have proposed business plans for the project he is sure that the government will receive proposals.
“This is a project that is being conducted under SEZ.
Hence, according to the regulations, the work should be started within few days after the proposal gets approved. Maybe that’s why some parties are still waiting” said Dr.Shainee.
Dr.Shainee said that even when speaking to the Indian journalists he told them that the government did not get proposals. “That does not mean that people are not interested in investing. Interested parties have made business plans and shared with the government” said Dr.Shainee.
He said that the government’s plan was to reclaim land once MTCC gets the dredger and he said that that plan is still on. The iHaven project will be the largest project conducted in Maldives ever.
That project will be like another “Dubai”. Even Saudi Arabia has expressed interest in investing in the project. It was Saudi Arabia that provided financial assistance to make the business plan of iHaven.
President Yameen have said that if this project is implemented, it will be another great milestone for Maldives.
Our hope is to start iHaven project this year: Dr.Shainee
