Loans will be granted to unfinished resorts: Opposition candidate Ibu

Opposition Coalition presidential candidate Ibrahim "Ibu" Mohamed Solih pledges to issue loans to resort owners facing financial difficulties in completing resort construction, in an MDP-run government.
Speaking at Veymandoo during the MDP campaign trail throughout Laamu and Thaa atolls, Ibu shed light on the urgency to expand tourism all throughout the Maldives.
Highlighting that although 160 islands have been leased for resort projects, he stated that financial difficulties have repressed the successful completion of many projects.
"Should we succeed in the upcoming elections, we will aid resort owners struggling with bank loans, to bring the projects to consummation. We will provide financial assistance needed to market such resort businesses," said Ibu.
Pointing out MDP's objective to develop an "island nation", he pledged to connect Veymandoo to its nearby islands, should MDP win the elections.
Veymadoo shares its lagoon with two other uninhabited islands known as Kinbidhoo and Ella. The people of Veymandoo have appealed to Ibu in the interest of joining the three islands together.
Ibu stated that if MDP's presidential bid is successful, he would develop the island to cater to its population of 13,000 including the establishment of a proper sewerage system.
Additionally, he stated his wish to further develop the public transport schedules, a project that was initially introduced by the previous MDP administration.
