Police have requested Sea Life Global Inc Pvt Ltd, who were in charge of completing 3,000 housing units in the reclaimed suburbs of Hulhumale’, to provide their financial receipts.
Sea Life “vanished” after collecting booking fees and down payment from those who had applied to secure a place in the flats. 191 people filed the largest action file case against Sea Life, the Economic Ministry and Housing Development Corporation (HDC) as well.
In addition to those who filed the case, more people were reported to be affected after the investigation was carried out by Police.
“We have appealed to provide the agreements made between Sea Life Glocal Inc Pvt Ltd and those who have signed it in order to gain further details regarding this case,” according to a Police announcement.
More than 280 people paid MVR 50,000 as registration fees to secure a place amongst the 300 housing units in the first phase of the Sea Life project. Furthermore, some have had given 20 percent as down payment.
According to reports, Sea Life has to pay back MVR 20 million to those who have made their payment. However, some customers have got a refund from the owners of Sea Life after constantly buzzing them.
Sea Life does not have an existing office in the Maldives anymore. The Managing Director of Sea Life Ahmed Moosa (Ammaty), who had appeared in music production videos in the recent past, have been reported to have migrated to the neighbouring country Sri Lanka.
Moosa previously stated, however, that the company has given a refund to majority of those who have applied for the flats. Furthermore, only 47 people were remaining who were promised to get their refund in August, according to the Managing Director Moosa. 191 people who filed the case against them, however, acts as evidence that Moosa was providing false information.
The housing project have come to a standstill, thus accusations were made against them as being con-artists as a result of the largest case lawsuit in Maldives were filed against them.
