The government has unveiled the design concept of Malé-Hulhumalé “China-Maldives Friendship” Bridge.
The design was unveiled at the function held at Surfer’s Point (Raalhugandu) area on Monday night.
The President، Abdulla Yameen Abdula Gayoom and Vice President Ahmed Adeeb attended the ceremony to unveil the design concept.

In addition the function was attended by cabinet ministers، members of the People’s Majlis، and head of government institutes.
Commenting on the bridge design، Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has previously stated that the design is ‘flawless and beautiful’.
Minister further said the the bridge will have separate lanes of bicycle riders، as well as، pedestrians، and noted that the bridge design was finalized after bringing changes the government had desired as well.
The Bridge، constructed with the held of Chinese، will cost about US $300 million، and of which، $100 million has been donated by China as free aid.
The bridge also comes with solar panels to generate 4-6 megawatts، as well as، a system to generate energy from the waves، making it an environment-friendly bridge.
The Government had also said the bridge could transport 6،500 people within 15 minutes between Malé and Hulhulé..
Government had previously stated the construction of the bridge will begin in December this year.
